In the face of the current pandemic, there is no time to waste. Faced with the severe situation in Hukou County’s fight against the novel coronavirus outbreak, Hukou Longjishun Environmental Sanitation Service Co., Ltd. has earnestly implemented the work arrangements and requirements of the County Party Committee and County Government. Under the guidance of the County Urban Management Bureau, the company has actively fulfilled its primary corporate responsibilities, balancing production with epidemic prevention and control. While making every effort to ensure a sanitary living environment for urban and rural residents, the company has also prioritized epidemic prevention and control efforts.
First, the company immediately convened an emergency meeting on epidemic prevention and control to strictly implement preventive measures. An epidemic prevention task force was established to distribute protective supplies—including masks, gloves, and disinfectant—to employees as soon as possible. The company also promptly coordinated the replenishment of these supplies to ensure proactive prevention, implemented physical distancing measures, provided repeated training on the use of protective equipment, and required employees to wear full protective gear before starting work. The company prioritized the health and safety of sanitation workers above all else to prevent and minimize their risk of infection.
Step 2: All company employees, including management, must remain on standby at all times, and a system for screening for the epidemic must be established. Given the large number and widespread distribution of sanitation workers, it is required to conduct continuous daily screenings of all sanitation workers. These screenings should cover their work and living conditions, contact with people in their immediate surroundings, and any planned trips to Wuhan or similar areas. Daily reports on disinfection, waste collection, and transportation must be submitted, with detailed records of work activities kept and promptly reported.
Step 3: Show care and concern for sanitation workers on the front lines. Management at all levels is required to pay attention to the workers’ work and personal lives, promptly address their issues, and ensure that epidemic prevention measures are implemented smoothly and in a timely manner.
On January 28, our company received a notice from the county government requiring us to construct medical facilities capable of treating patients with the novel coronavirus within five days. Upon receiving the assignment, the general manager immediately organized a swift response. While ensuring that work in all other areas was completed, he mobilized more than 100 people to clear out the dilapidated building next to the People’s Hospital. Within two hours, 16 metric tons of accumulated trash were cleared from the interior and hauled away, securing valuable time for subsequent construction work at the site.
The company has placed dedicated mask disposal bins at key locations—such as train stations, bus stations, highways, hospitals, residential communities, and government offices—as well as at various intersections. The company assigns dedicated staff to disinfect and collect the discarded masks from these bins and arranges for special vehicles to transport them, ensuring professional and safe disposal to prevent secondary pollution caused by discarded masks.
The company has deployed fog cannon trucks, high-pressure washing trucks, and workers to thoroughly disinfect trash cans, wheelbarrows, public restrooms, waste compaction stations, transfer stations, farmers’ markets, and office locations throughout the county at least three times a day, ensuring that no area is overlooked.
Sanitation workers are working day and night to disinfect, clean, collect, and transport household waste in various areas. Due to pandemic control measures, people who had returned to their hometowns for the Spring Festival were stranded in rural areas and unable to leave to work elsewhere. Since the start of the Spring Festival, the volume of household waste generated in rural areas has increased significantly. At the Hukou County Urban Waste Compaction Station, a steady stream of various types of transfer trucks has been bringing household waste from urban and rural residential communities and villages to this central hub, and large transfer trucks haul away the disinfected and compacted waste. While the daily waste transfer volume is typically just over 130 metric tons, it has surged to nearly 400 metric tons during the Spring Festival period. From before the New Year until now, 16 large trucks have been responsible for transporting all household waste from urban and rural areas. To ensure the job is done right, most employees have been working on-site continuously for many days, subsisting on instant noodles and pickled mustard greens day after day, without even time for a proper meal, working from 5 or 6 in the morning until 11 or 12 at night. They are doing this solely to ensure that household waste is collected and cleared daily, thereby effectively controlling the spread of the epidemic.
In the face of the pandemic, everyone at Hukou Longjishun Company has united as one, spared no effort, and responded scientifically. We have stepped up cleaning and disinfection efforts in public areas to effectively safeguard the lives and health of the people.
