Twenty Years of Dedication, All to Make the City More Beautiful

Amid the hustle and bustle of the city, there is a group of people who work quietly behind the scenes yet make tremendous efforts to keep the city beautiful and clean. They are the sanitation workers, often hailed as the “city’s beauticians.” And among these hardworking sanitation workers, Tu Xingquan is undoubtedly the brightest star.

Tu Xingquan is an ordinary sanitation worker at Longjishun Company in Hukou County, but the spirit and professional integrity he has demonstrated have made him the focus of public attention. At the age of just 30, disregarding societal prejudices and judgmental glances, he resolutely chose to dedicate himself to the sanitation industry.

As one of the few male employees in his crew, he’s like a brick—moved wherever he’s needed—and through his actions, he demonstrates his passion and dedication to environmental sanitation work.

For the past 20 years, Tu Xingquan has worked diligently, joining his wife—who is also a sanitation worker—in leaving early and returning late every day as they crisscross the city’s streets and alleys. With their own hands and sweat, they have made the greatest contribution to the city’s cleanliness and beauty. Whether under the scorching summer sun or in the biting winter wind, they have remained steadfast at their posts, never complaining of hardship or fatigue.

In 2023, as part of the company’s assignment, Tu Xingquan took on the role of operating the high-pressure water jet truck. Since then, his busy figure has been a familiar sight at bus stops, guardrails along main roads, and sidewalks in the various streets and community areas contracted by the company. The area he is responsible for is always the cleanest and most well-maintained. His truck is also the best-maintained and cleanest of the fleet, and his repair costs are only half those of his colleagues. All of this is a testament to his meticulous approach to his work and his spirit of selfless dedication.

In Tu Xingquan’s view, the most challenging times for sanitation workers are holidays. While others are reuniting with their families, they remain on the streets, working hard to keep the city clean. He often says, “If I don’t do it, who will?” “ ”As long as I’m doing it, I’m going to do it right.” This sense of responsibility and his passion for the sanitation industry have kept him quietly at his post for 20 years, without ever wavering for a moment.

Tu Xingquan, this admirable sanitation worker, demonstrates his passion and dedication to his work through his actions. With his own hands and hard work, he has contributed to the city’s cleanliness and beauty. He firmly believes: “I will continue to contribute my experience and energy, working alongside my team to preserve the beauty of Hukou. I am confident that, through our joint efforts, Hukou will certainly become an even cleaner and more beautiful city.”
